For Her: A Message to the Girl Who Started

Before the medals.
Before the national teams.

There was just a girl who wanted to play.

Sport made her feel the most like herself — the excitement, the competition, the joy of the game. But growing up, the path for girls in sport wasn’t always clear.

We didn’t always see ourselves on TV.
There weren’t many athletes who looked like us.
Sometimes we were the only girl on the team.

And with that came quiet questions:
Do I belong here?
How far could this really go?

There wasn’t a blueprint for women in sport.

So we started drawing one.

We kept showing up — through doubt, through pressure, through moments that made us question everything. Over time, we became what we once wished we could see.

Today, women are competing at the highest levels, representing their countries, and playing in professional leagues that young athletes can finally watch and believe in.

But it didn’t always look like this.

Every step forward in women’s sport is really for her — the girl who started it all.

The one who loved the game before the path existed.

If she could see us now…

She’d be smiling from ear to ear.
But we’re not done yet.

There’s still more space to create.
More paths to build.
More girls who deserve to see what’s possible.

So we keep going.
