Happy new year! I have had a lot of conversations with ultimate players about mental toughness. It is such a big part of our sport and is somewhat difficult to get better at. I wanted to offer what has helped me stay strong in big moments.
- 1. It is just frisbee - It is a simple concept but for some reason, it resonates with me. I repeat this to myself in big moments. It is a simple game. Don’t scare yourself with context.
- 2. Commit to NOW - My experience in frisbee is that there are a lot of smart people and there are a lot of ways to win. Being able to sit back and focus on the execution of the little things is huge. Complete this pass. Drive hard in this cut. Anticipate the throw.
- 3. Trust your game - Blind confidence is necessary to win. You can’t doubt yourself. Know that you can execute. Don’t get caught thinking. Attack the moment! Win it!
How can I simplify? How can I stay in the moment? How can I communicate better?
Club/College season is around the corner. Order now and stay ahead of the busy season!
